MCLOUD, OKLAHOMA RESIDENTS UPSET OVER A MONTHLY $17 WATER BILL CHARGE FOR THOSE WHO USE WELLS…

Residents of McLoud, OK are upset because the city announced that a $17 water bill charge will have to be paid every month by residents who use wells.  If they don’t pay up, they’ll be hit with a $20 per day charge.

I can certainly understand their beef about paying for something that they don’t even use, but the reality of it is that it’s happening to all of us in one way or another.  I just received a notice in the mail that our property taxes will be going up substantially because another new school will have to be built, and the feasibility study alone will cost tens of thousands of dollars.  I’m upset because I don’t even have kids so why do I have to pay for a school that my family won’t even be using?  This is just another harsh fact of life.  My guess is that the next government tax will be aimed at people who use wood-burning stoves because of the "toxins emitted into the atmosphere".  I can see that one coming.  We’re all just getting one royal screwing after another.  One of my cousins stated that maybe we should just stay bent over for the never-ending screwing, and I agree…

McLoud residents "hook up or pay up"

MCLOUD, OK — Several residents in McLoud are upset after the city announced a $17 water bill for residents who use a well. According to City Manager Larry Dillon, the small fee will help pay for emergency services such as police officers and fire fighters. Because of an old city ordinance, rural residents with in 100-yards of a water line didn’t have to pay for those services; but because of a struggling economy, every dollar counts.

If local residents don’t want to pay the fee they’ll have to connect to the water line.

"I know nobody likes to pay extra bills, but it’s a reality of life and you have to pay your way because there is no free ride anywhere," said Dillon.

If local residents don’t pay the $17 monthly charge or hook up to the water line, city officials will fine them of $20 per day.

That, Tom, is precisely the reason we don\’t dispute the spiraling property taxes. The point I was trying to make is that no matter where you go or who you are, you\’ll always be paying for something that you don\’t utilize personally. As you stated, there are benefits to be made indirectly regarding schooling, and I couldn\’t agree more, but oftentimes the tax hikes are over-inflated, and that\’s my beef.

I would put schools in a differnt class. My parents lived in Sun City, AZ and with no kids in the entire city they consistently voted down County school bonds. Even if we don\’t have kids, we benefit as a society from well educated, socialized and responsible kids that good schooling provides. Now if teachers should be paid as richly as they are in California driving up the taxes is another matter.
