Fred Stobaugh, 96, Charts With Viral Hit 'Lorraine'

A 96-year old man, Fred Stobaugh from East Peoria, IL, saw a Green Shoe Studio ad for a songwriting contest in the paper earlier this summer.  The ad indicated that interested people should submit their song by uploading it onto YouTube and sending the link to them for consideration.

Fred had just lost his wife, Lorraine, only a month before and thought it would be a great way for him to honor her memory with a song from his heart.  They met at an A & W Root Beer Stand in 1938, were together for 75 years, and he missed her so very much.

This is the most touching story of a love that spanned for over 7 decades between a loving couple, and the way a 96-year old man tries to fill the void by penning a beautiful tribute to her after her passing.

This video is so much better than watching those plastic, trashy, self-absorbed idiots at the VMAs (think Miley Cyrus) and is much more rewarding.  It fills my heart with such emotion, and I send prayers to Fred Stobaugh that God keeps him healthy until he is reunited with his Sweet Lorraine once again.  I’m sure Lorraine loves his tribute song to her as much as we do…

Fred was unable to sing or play an instrument, but that didn’t stop him.  He wrote down the lyrics of his song to his beautiful wife, Lorraine, and mailed the lyrics to the studio, along with a letter.  The studio that advertised for the contest read his letter and lyrics and were so touched by his heartfelt sentiment, they decided to hire a professional singer to record it for him.

Fred, your memories will live on in your heart, and now ours as well.  Lorraine, you married a wonderful and caring man.  This is what true love is all about.  May God bless you both, and Green Shoe Studio and Jacob Colgan, you all deserve a standing O for making Fred’s dream come true *** APPLAUSE ***.  Here’s that touching story.  You’ll notice as Fred talks about Lorraine, his face lights up like a child on Christmas morning…

You can purchase “Oh, Sweet Lorraine” from iTunes…
