How quickly idiots forget…

Remember the Air Force 1’s flyover "Photo Op" that occurred in New York where New Yorkers scrambled for cover, screaming, thinking they were under another terrorist attack?  Authorities in Las Vegas, NV will stage a large-scale emergency exercise on Wednesday morning where approximately 200 "victims" will conduct a mock airplane crash, and the exercise will feature a progressive scenario that limits participants’ advance knowledge of what’s unfolding around them.  The technique is meant to improve their abilities to react quickly and correctly during a stressful situation.  Will they be prepared to handle the backlash if someone suffers a heart attack (God forbid) because of this stressful situation?

LAS VEGAS (BNO NEWS) – Authorities in Las Vegas will be conducting a large-scale emergency exercise on Wednesday morning, involving nearly 200 fake victims from an aircraft crash, McCarran International Airport announced on Monday.

The exercise will be coordinated by the Clark County Department of Aviation, and will involve hundreds of fake victims and emergency personnel. Numerous other agencies, facilities, vehicles and aircraft will also participate.

On Wednesday morning, emergency teams will respond to a simulated accident involving multiple aircraft near one of McCarran’s busiest taxiways. An MD-80 passenger jet and a Eurostar helicopter will be used in the realistic exercise, which took more than a year to plan.

"Local fire, police and rescue personnel will coordinate their response just as they would during a real-world event, including the expected use of ambulances and rescue helicopters to shuttle victims to 12 participating Southern Nevada hospitals," said Chris Jones, a spokesman for the airport.

Jones was not able to say what will happen during the simulated accident because the exercise will feature a progressive scenario that limits participants’ advance knowledge of what’s unfolding around them. The technique is meant to improve their abilities to react quickly and correctly during a stressful situation. Smoke, pyrotechnics and a busy on-airport setting will contribute to the realism of the drill.

Nearly 200 high school students from four area trade schools will pose as victims. Prior to the drill, those students will undergo an extensive moulage process to replicate injuries that would likely result from an actual aircraft crash. "Medical responders will be asked to triage these patients to determine what care is needed before directing the injured to the appropriate medical facility," Jones said.

Following the drill, authorities will also hold a mock press conference in which they will present details of the simulated emergency.

The news media will also be given rare access to such a large emergency exercise, with airport representatives giving live interviews starting at 5.30 a.m. local time. Live television crews will also be allowed to cover the event on-scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires most U.S. airports to complete an emergency preparedness exercise every three years in order to maintain their certification.
