OBAMA CHOOSES A REPUBLICAN AS HIS COMMERCE SECRETARY…

If at first you don’t succeed…

Obama initially chose Bill Richardson for the Commerce Secretary job, and you know how that poor choice turned out…the New Mexico governor had to withdraw his nomination amid a grand jury investigation into a state contract awarded to his political donors.  It was no big surprise that another Democrat had to step down.  Richardson‘s name was frequently mentioned as a possible Cabinet appointment in the incoming Obama administration.  Most of this speculation surrounded the position of Secretary of State, given Richardson’s background as a “diplomat”.  It was widely reported, and eventually officially announced, that Hillary Clinton would be Obama’s nominee for Secretary of State.  I’m thinking it was because Hillary Clinton approached Obama to cash in her chips for playing along with him and the rest of the Democrats.  Around the same time, it was reported that Richardson was being strongly considered for the position of Commerce Secretary, and on December 3, 2008, Obama did tap Richardson for the post.  On January 4, 2009, Richardson withdrew his name as Commerce Secretary nominee because of the federal grand jury investigation into pay-to-play dealing.  The New York Times reported in late December that the grand jury investigation issue would be raised at Richardson’s confirmation hearings.  Boy, I’ll tell you…Obama can really pick them.

This time around, he played it safe by going with a Republican, New Hampshire Senator Judd Greg.  I’m sure there will be no ill effects with this choice.  Judd Gregg would be the third Republican in Obama’s Cabinet, joining Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.  Three’s the charm here.

It will be interesting to see how Judd Greg does in this position should it come to fruition.  Obama says he’s doing this to “be bipartisan”, but if you read between the lines, he actually chose a Republican because they needed a candidate who didn’t have any destructive baggage that would come back to haunt them.  Transition officials were well aware, from the start, the problems Richardson faced stemming from the federal investigation which was first publicly reported over four months ago.  Only recently, has the Obama team decided that Richardson’s problems are fatal, as the Blagojevich affair created combustible conditions.  They know only too well that this time around, they needed to get a squeaky clean candidate…enter Judd Greg, US State Senator of New Hampshire, who does has a clean record―something you can’t say about most of the Democrats in Obama’s cabinet.  Look what happened in the White House the last time a Democrat was in office?  Bill Clinton’s legacy is forever tainted, regardless of how much some people say they love him.  He lied to the American people while under oath and disgraced the White House.  Only when there was concrete evidence was he forced to come clean and own up to his despicable actions.  The same thing happened with countless other Democrats when faced with their own “lapse in judgement”.  I’m an Independent, but I find that there’s always been a massive amount of misconduct among Democrats, but they are few and far between with Republicans.

Some people would say that Obama is under more scrutiny than the previous Republican presidency.  I beg to differ here.  You can be 100% sure that if the Democrats found anything amiss with the Republicans that Bush picked for his cabinet, they would have brought all the filth, front and center.  They had to keep their mouths shut because there wasn’t any.  As I’ve said before, Bush brought dignity back to the White House after it was disgraced by Bill Clinton.
