Fox News host Glenn Beck personally has written a check to reserve the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts for a special prelude to the Aug. 28 "Restoring Honor" celebration at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

"It’s kind of the prelude, the table-setting if you will, for what you’re going to see and witness on stage on 8/28," Beck tells Newsmax.TV.

A post on GlennBeck.com Tuesday described the event on the evening of Aug. 27 as "an inspiring look at the role faith played in the founding of America and the role it will play again in its destiny."

Beck provided additional details about the Kennedy Center program on his radio show Tuesday. (Video below; I wasn’t able to embed video here.)

"The show is going to be an evening with an all-star choir that you also don’t want to miss, an all-star choir, nationally known religious figures from all faiths will join me on stage," Beck said.

"I am going to share with you four sermons that changed the course of the planet. They happened prior to 1770. They are the American ideals. They came first from the pulpit and they play a key role in changing the course of America today.

"The event will focus on shared values, principles, and strong belief that faith must play an essential role in reuniting the country and it is the key principle in man’s freedom," Beck told his listeners.

The Kennedy Center, which has confirmed the booking, lists the event on its calendar for Aug. 27 with the title: "Mercury Radio Arts Presents: Glenn Beck’s Divine Destiny."

The event is booked for the center’s largest venue, the Concert Hall, which seats 2,454, according to the Kennedy Center. Although the Kennedy Center did not disclose Beck’s cost for booking the center’s prestigious Concert Hall, the published corporate rate for the venue is listed at $29,570 for a single evening.

Beck says very few tickets will be distributed to the Aug. 27 event, which is free. He calls the event a "powerful prelude" to the Restoring Honor rally the following day.

"I am making all of these free because I do not want to be accused of making any money on anything," Beck told his radio audience. "I personally wrote the check for the Kennedy Center. A limited number of free tickets will be made available on the day of the performance to the general public."

The tickets, Beck said, will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Kennedy Center’s Hall of Nations on the day of the performance.

The Restoring Honor event is billed as a non-political effort to re-establish the values expressed when the nation was created. More information is available at GlennBeck.com/828.

According to the event’s Web site, the celebration will pay tribute to America’s service personnel, who embody the virtue of honor.

All proceeds will go to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which, according to its Web site, "provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions, and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families."

Scheduled speakers include Beck; former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin; Dr. Alveda King, the niece of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King; and Marcus Luttrell, former Navy Seal and author of best-selling "Lone Survivor." Country music artist Jo Dee Messina is scheduled to perform.
